Was a greeter at church today while Bill sang in the choir. After that we headed home for our own private Super Bowl Party :) Fixed snacks, dips, and margaritas as we watched the Patriots vs the Seahawks ending in an incredible, unbelievable last two plays which resulted in the Patriots' win.
During the game, I received a Facebook message from a former student, Jolene, (circa 1993), who was asking for help with her daughter's math homework. She is in 6th grade but is doing 7th grade math simultaneously mostly on her own. I was able to show them how to do the problem and was really happy to have been asked. Jolene's mother was a good friend, Jo, who passed away a long time ago now. She was the principal's secretary at SJHA and we exchanged books all the time. I still find some with her initial on the back. Next, I received another Facebook message from a former student (Allison)--Westmont this time, asking for my address so she could invite us to her wedding! Her fiance (Steve) is also a former student of mine. He is going to be a math teacher and is finishing his masters at Davis. Both of them were in my classes as well as in CSF. When I told her I was honored to be invited this was her response: "Of course we want to include you! You have been a big influence in both of our lives. Thank you!" Retired but not forgotten :)
